Our View-

The episode starts with Devi V. praying to god about some requests about this year of high school. She wants to fall in love and have a boyfriend who is a hottie and wants to change the image of her in the minds of everyone at school. She has a huge crush on Paxton and very crazy about him and wants to have sex with him and she approaches him to with this unfamiliar request but she cannot go forward with it. Paxton gives vibes of Peter Kevensky to Jake Ryan to Gilbert Blythe to Jordan Catalano and he is thoughtful and observant. Her nemesis, Ben first gives her trouble but they start getting along very well and she even kisses him and  stays at his home when she leaves her home when her mum decides to go back to India.

Devi is very jealous of her cousin Kamala as she thinks she is better than her in everything and mother seems overly fond of her. Kamala’s character, on the other hand, is that of a confused woman, supposedly doing her masters at Caltech, with a South Asian boyfriend who she dumps with remarkable ease for a desi stranger. Devi seems relieved when she knows about Kamala’s boyfriend as to know that she is not who she shows to her mother.

It shows a very typical Indian side leaving in America like the boy coming to see the girl in an arranged marriage, the ganesh pooja, Indian community meeting and gossiping, people abandoning a woman who married outside the caste. In season 2 Devi will have to choose between Paxton and Ben.
